During his first season at King Power Stadium,?he made eight appearances for the Foxes, but in 2019/20, S?yüncü became a regular starter in Brendan Rodgers' first team.
As well as scoring his first goal for City in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in November 2019, '?a?s' starred in all but one of Leicester's Premier League fixtures before football's suspension due to COVID-19 in March 2020.
Not only is S?yüncü a virtual ever-present for the Foxes, but the nature of his performances - typified by his immense strength and composure in possession - has quickly established him among the Premier League's best defenders in 2019/20.
Of those 28 appearances in the Premier League so far, he has won 15 of those matches, boasting an additional 10 clean sheets in the process.
A full Turkey international, S?yüncü made his senior debut for his national side at just 19 years old against Sweden in March 2016 and has since become a regular for the Crescent-Stars.
Born in Izmir, S?yüncü began his career with his local side, Alt?nordu F.K. in the TFF First League, the second tier of the Turkish Football League.
He made his professional debut in 2014 and appeared 34 times for the side over the following two seasons.
At Menemen Belediyespor, now Menemenspor, he was a prolific striker. At Bucaspor, he played just in front of the back line, and it was only at Gümü?orduspor, where one of his team-mates got injured, that he would drop into centre-back to replace him.
SC Freiburg, meanwhile, made their move for the centre-back shortly after he turned 19, making him?the first player ever to make the move from Turkey’s second tier to Germany’s top flight.
An impressive debut Bundesliga campaign followed in 2016/17 which saw S?yüncü earn 24 first team appearances as Freiburg finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
The following season, he played 30 times for Freiburg and scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim.
As S?yüncü established himself in the first team, the German side finished 15th in the league and reached the round of 16 of DFB-Pokal.
With over 20 caps to his name, including five in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, S?yüncü scored his first international goal with a late equaliser against Tunisia in June 2018.?
Now, the Turk is a regular presence in Rodgers' Leicester XI, alongside Jonny Evans, and is quickly building a large fanbase both in his homeland and in England.
